Trip maps

2009-01-05

Google Maps can be used to create interactive games. They’re ideal for creating maps of holiday trips. Click on them to open them. Once opened, you can click on the markers to see the pictures for that place. Clicking on the pictures shows a the picture in a bigger format on a new page. Here’s a map from my New Zealand trip : The same for a Firenze trip :

GNU chess and xboard on eee PC

2008-10-06

The eee PC is a cool little machine. It boots up in 20 seconds, weights about a kilo and it runs Linux. What else do you want in a netbook ? A chess program would be a nice addition. Here I’ll show you how to install GNU chess and xboard. First download the following packages : the debian etch gnuchess package the debian etch xaw3dg package the debian etch xboard package You’ll need to download the i386 architecture package.

Change of website

2008-10-05

As you might have noticed, this site has moved to Yahoo web hosting, under the new URL michelhollands.net. The old URL (www.michelhollands.com) still exists, and will redirect to here. This does mean that the RSS feeds will have to be updated. Sorry about that.

Burj Dubai

2008-09-29

The new tower in Dubai, called Burj Dubai, is not particularly pretty, but it sure is tall. On September 1st it was 688 meters tall. Because it is so slender, it doesn’t look that tall. That could change though once you are allowed to stand right under it. And it should look better if there are no sandstorms out and about. Here’s a crappy picture taken from the taxi :
